Crescent Communities’ Escent Research Park, a four-story, 158,000-square-foot creative office community in the heart of University Research Park, held its official topping out on Friday, August 24 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Topping out is a major milestone for the project, signifying completion of the structural component of the building — a nearly three-month journey since the first panel was set.
Up next, the Escent Research Park team plans to remove the temporary braces of the structure, which will allow for more space in the work area and the team to commence activities on the architectural features of the building and surrounding areas. Escent Research Park is expected to be delivered in 2021.
The community is located in the quickly-growing University Research Park area, which has become a critical employment and technology hub for the region. Centene Corporation recently announced plans to invest over $1 billion and bring 3,237 jobs to University Research Park. Centene’s expansion will serve as their East Coast HQ and will be located within a half mile of Escent Research Park.
Escent Research Park will be the first and only new speculative office building in URP in 20 years. Crescent Communities has a longstanding history in the University area, with the group’s first foray in the market having taken place in 1995. Today, 25 years later, Crescent Communities has delivered 9 communities totaling approximately 1 million square feet of office space and nearly 1,150 multifamily residences, with additional communities in the pipeline.
