CHARLOTTE, N.C., (August 29, 2023) - Crescent Communities and Hospitality HQ are pleased to announce the first tenants of Monarch Market: Barley and Burger, Curry Junction, and Rolled AF. These are the first three out of 12 food stalls confirmed for the 18,000 square foot culinary collective in the heart of Uptown, scheduled to open this Fall on the ground floor of One Independence Center.

Barley and Burger originated in Eastern NC, serving gourmet burgers made from high quality Black Angus, short rib and chuck alongside wings, nachos, loaded fries and craft beer. Curry Junction comes from the family behind Curry Gate, an Indian and Nepalese restaurant that has built a loyal following for its traditional curry dishes, tandoori-style cooking, and fresh naan. Rolled AF is a new concept from the owners of Nacho Average and 22 Street Kitchen, two of Charlotte’s well-known food trucks. They are merging their recipes to create a modern Mexican menu based on fresh ingredients rolled in tortillas.

“As you can see with these regionally-based, chef-driven brands, Monarch Market is set to be a culinary experience filled with diverse food and culture,” says Akhtar Nawab, chef, co-Chief Executive Officer and Founding Partner of Hospitality HQ. “We look forward to expanding upon our vision for Monarch Market to be an incubator for culinary talent with more like-minded culinary concepts as we move closer to opening.”

“We are thrilled to continue our expansion throughout Charlotte and bring Curry Junction to the Monarch Market community. We plan to bring our cravable Indian dishes to the heart of Uptown alongside a diverse lineup of like-minded culinary operators,” says Chuda Dhimal, owner of Curry Gate.

“Barley and Burger is excited to bring our love of burgers to the Charlotte community. With mouthwatering smash burgers made with quality ingredients and served in a welcoming atmosphere, we aim to satisfy guests’ cravings with an unforgettable burger experience. We look forward to serving everyone,” says Travis Ellis, owner of Barley and Burger.

“We are ecstatic to debut our new concept, Rolled AF, at Monarch Market this fall,” says Ashley Outlaw, Rolled AF co-owner. “We’ve been looking for the right space to combine our skills and passion for Mexican cuisine, and look forward to joining the other unique F&B offerings at the culinary collective.”

In addition to the culinary collective at the center of Monarch Market, the destination will also include a full-service restaurant, an intimate cocktail lounge located on a mezzanine with outdoor space overlooking Tryon Street and Blumenthal Performing Arts Center, a semi-private space that can be reserved for corporate and group events, plus indoor and outdoor bars on the main level.

“This is the first of many exciting announcements on the horizon for Monarch Market. Curry Junction, Rolled AF, and Barley and Burger serve as a taste of the vibrant culinary and entertainment experience to come for Uptown Charlotte and our tenants of One Independence Center,” says Alex Hondros, Director of Office Acquisitions and Asset Management of Crescent Communities.

Monarch Market will offer catering that allows groups to choose foods from any of the vendors on site, and food delivery will be available for those who work on the floors above at One Independence Center.
