Monarch Market Celebrates Grand Opening As Uptown Charlotte's Elevated Culinary Experience
Nov 2 '23

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Nov. 2, 2023) - Monarch Market celebrates its opening today, Nov. 2, 2023, as a culinary collective offering a diversity of food and culture to visitors, workers, and residents of Uptown Charlotte.

“Monarch Market is the culmination of years of planning, construction, and vendor curation to craft a unique experience that is representative of both the present and future of Charlotte,” says Brendan Pierce, President of Commercial at Crescent Communities. “We are thrilled to see this come to fruition, and we’re proud of the work both our teams and Hospitality HQ have completed to bring Monarch Market to life.”

“We can’t wait for people to begin experiencing this culinary collective we’ve worked so hard to build. Monarch Market encapsulates the energy and vibrancy of Uptown while also pushing the envelope for food and beverage in our city,” says Sagar Rathie, Managing Director of Commercial at Crescent Communities.

Monarch Market opens with one full-service restaurant, Sushi Art, and six food stalls: Barley & Burger, Focaccina, Kabab2Go, Pha Khao Lao, Rolled AF, and Seoul Good. Three additional food stalls–Brooklyn Dumpling Shop, Curry Gate, and Dock Local–will open within weeks. Three food stalls are available for lease.

As of today, all three bars are open with unique menus and experiences. Aster Cocktail Room, located on a mezzanine above the main food hall with a balcony overlooking Tryon Street, is an intimate lounge serving artfully crafted cocktails. Lanai Terrace Bar serves refreshing drinks in an open-air setting with coastal-inspired decor just a few steps off Tryon St. Monarch Bar is at the center of the main dining hall and offers a selection of signature cocktails. Each bar also serves local craft beer and wines by the glass and bottle.

Monarch Market tapped local artist Rosalia Torres-Weiner to create one-of-a-kind murals in multiple spaces. Her vibrant work can be enjoyed in the main dining hall and Aster Cocktail Room.

“Monarch Market is an experience unlike any other in Charlotte, and really any we’ve seen in the U.S. We are extremely proud of the mix of local and national chefs and culinary brands we’ve brought together under one roof to create a first of its kind culinary destination in one of the fastest growing cities in the country,” says Akhtar Nawab, co-founder of Hospitality HQ.

Monarch Market boasts unique online ordering technology that allows guests to order from multiple food stalls on one tab, for both pick-up and delivery. This technology will be available within one week. To-go orders will be picked up from dedicated hot and cold food storage lockers near the entrance.

Monarch Market sits at the base of One Independence Center, a 554,000 square foot office building. Crescent Communities, in partnership with Nuveen, has led the investment of over $30MM into the asset over the past 4-years to make the asset “commute worthy”. Leasing opportunities, which meet the needs of today’s businesses e are available in sizes ranging from 4,000 square feet to 175,000 contiguous square feet. Stream Realty’s Charley Leavitt and Barry Fabyan are responsible for leasing the asset.
