CHARLOTTE, North Carolina (April XX, 2024)Crescent Communities a nationally recognized, market-leading real estate investor, developer, and operator of mixed-use communities this week hosted its first-ever Happy Givemore Invitational to benefit The ROC Charlotte, an organization that educates and mentors high school students and connects them with employment opportunities in the construction industry. In total, the golf tournament raised more than $100,000, all of which will go directly to The ROC to help fund its transformational educational and vocational programming.

The event, hosted at TPC Piper Glen, included a full day of golf with more than 100 participants from multiple industries followed by a reception and celebratory dinner. Participants included a mix of Crescent colleagues as well as business leaders from local partners including Regroup and Moore & Van Allen, the event’s platinum sponsors. Other event sponsors included: Choate Construction, Dwell Design Studio, EM Structural, Finfrock, Fortune Johnson, Gilbane, Jordan & Skala Engineers, Troutman Pepper and Whiting Turner.

“At Crescent, our day job is to create communities, but our real passion is building community, and we envisioned Happy Givemore as a great opportunity to unite our colleagues and development partners for a fun social event while also supporting the next generation of construction professionals,” said Lisa Phocas, Crescent Communities’ director of stewardship. “Our communities are nothing without the hard work and support of our construction teams, and we are inspired by the path The ROC Charlotte is charting to educate and mentor young professionals and to build a more equitable workforce throughout our city.”

The funds raised will directly support The ROC’s ongoing initiatives, which include hands-on workshops, scholarships, and real-world construction experience for students from Title 1 schools on Charlotte’s west side. The ROC provides select junior and senior students skills training in advanced carpentry, electrical, HVAC and construction management through a combination of structured classroom and applied learning opportunities with local professional mentors, including Crescent Communities teammates. Some students also receive dual high school and college credits through Central Piedmont Community College. After graduation, the students can complete their associate degree at Central Piedmont, continue onto a four-year university degree, or join the construction industry directly.

“The critical and life-changing work we do at the The ROC is only possible because of generous partners like Crescent Communities and all of the Happy Givemore sponsors who made this inaugural event such a success,” said The ROC Charlotte Executive Director Darren Ash. “This fall, our work will expand to help more than 200 students – up from about 150 students last year – so the funds raised at this event will be immediately impactful to our students and programming.”
